Remote Sensing & GIS Portal Water Resources Department, Government of Jharkhand

The Remote Sensing and GIS Portal is a flagship initiative of the Water Resources Department, Government of Jharkhand, developed to integrate geospatial intelligence into the state’s water governance framework. This portal serves as a centralized digital platform for spatial data visualization, real-time monitoring, infrastructure planning, and informed decision-making in the water resources sector.

By leveraging Remote Sensing (RS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and advanced analytics, the platform aims to address Jharkhand’s diverse hydro-climatic challenges—ranging from erratic rainfall and seasonal flooding to groundwater depletion and increasing agricultural demand.

Vision

To build a geospatially empowered and water-secure Jharkhand through transparent, data-driven, and climate-resilient water resource governance.

Mission

  • To institutionalize the use of Remote Sensing and GIS in water resource management, infrastructure planning, and risk mitigation.

  • To provide real-time, spatially referenced data for informed decision-making at state, district, and block levels.

  • To promote sustainability, inclusiveness, and accountability in the planning and execution of water sector interventions.

  • To support collaboration between departments, research institutions, and communities using a shared geospatial platform.

Core Values

  • Transparency: Promote open access to reliable and up-to-date water resource data.

  • Scientific Rigor: Ensure evidence-based planning through validated spatial data and models.

  • Sustainability: Encourage long-term, environment-sensitive water management practices.

  • Collaboration: Foster inter-departmental coordination and knowledge sharing.

  • Innovation: Embrace cutting-edge geospatial technologies for better service delivery.

  • Equity: Ensure that geospatial solutions are inclusive and benefit all stakeholders, especially rural and underserved areas.
